The eagerly awaited proposed design for the WAMA museum and surrounding botanic gardens was shared in an open forum in Halls Gap for the first time on 24 May 2015. Melbourne based MvS Architects have collaborated with the landscape architecture firm TRACT Consultants to create an exciting, eye-catching design which incorporates the original wetlands and waterways and complements the existing conservation areas of protected indigenous vegetation. The museum integrates world class gallery spaces, public amenities and an interconnected complex of educational facilities. With stunning views to both the wetlands and the mountains, this design will enable WAMA to deliver on its vision: to provide a setting recognising Australia’s contribution to the natural sciences, showcase the work of outstanding wildlife and natural history artists and nurture a learning experience for current and future generations.
