In some respect I guess my work is about symbols. Primarily my work is abstract, but occasionally figurative, yet still relatively abstract.
I guess my interest in primitive art, and the origins of human image making drive the narrative. My work usually has something to do with biodiversity and speciation, and this is best addressed by abstraction.
The work in glass is technically archaic utilizing a modified pre-glassblowing vessel-making method called core-forming. I almost exclusively work in a painterly manner around the colour sequences which occur in species of parrots.
My work with paint has a broader story. The series of works from which the Naso painting is drawn is inspired by the compositions of bark cloths created by artists in a small village on the Oro Peninsula in PNG. I’ve replaced the fundamental details of their work with images of Cockatoo tail feathers.
