WAMA opened their garden gates for Botanic Gardens Australia and New Zealand’s (BGANZ) Botanic Gardens Day celebration on Sunday May 26th. The event attracted an impressive crowd to not only view the gardens but also to see and learn more about the WAMA project.
About Botanic Gardens Day
The aim of Botanic Gardens Day is to highlight the role of plants in our lives and the important work botanic gardens and arboreta undertake every day to conserve them for future generations.
WAMA’s endemic botanic gardens is one of the newest gardens in the Botanic Gardens network.
Established in 2022 WAMA’s Grampians (Gariwerd) Endemic Botanic Gardens is one Victoria’s newly established gardens. Showcasing over 70 native species only found growing within the Grampians region. The plant collection displays many rare and endangered plants that are often located in remote areas that are difficult to access.
The garden gives visitors the opportunity to view the plants in the one captured location without having to trek far and wide through the Grampians National Park.
WAMA opens its gardens to the public
This is the first time WAMA has opened its gardens to the public and were impressed with the amount of people who came through the gate.
Throughout the day, guided tours of the gardens took place plus displayed information on the gardens, plants and the WAMA development where visitors could also see the construction of the inspiring gallery building in full view.
We extend our gratitude to all those who attended and made the day a success, including our dedicated local volunteers and staff.
