My drawing is the re-creation of Elizabeth Gould’s lithograph, Nestor productus. Elizabeth, a British born natural history artist and illustrator, created many sublime works for The Birds of Australia and other volumes written by well known ornithologist John Gould.
Their brave journey to Australia from 1838-1840 researched and introduced Australian bird species unseen to Europe.
The now extinct Nestor productus is set against a current day bush scene from Moama/ Yorta Yorta country. This is an example of how many historical works created have evolved into the 21st century. The aim of my work is the continuation of observing and documenting the subtle beauty of native Australian flora and fauna, so many species which are at risk of disappearing without a trace.
