This painting was inspired by a little plein air work near Wonga Park. I did a few larger scale versions of it and then a miniature, just 2.5×4.5cm. It was the first time in my life painting that small. It was so difficult to let the water and paint play its part where there was almost no space for them to strive, but it was magical, it created unexplainable light, that inspired me to paint big again. That was the light that I saw on that plein air day. The “Flats and Hills” was born from “the gods” of nature, water and paint and I was just a medium to pass it through.
